This is a piece that I drew while I was coming to terms with the realization that I was bi. I was feeling so many conflicted emotions, from fear of repercussion from my conservative parents, to excitement about learning more about my identity and myself, and joy at the thought of being part of the beautiful LGBTQIA+ community. I was able to work through most of these emotions while working on the piece, and when it was finished, I felt more at peace.

The Mayonnaise Man

A strange man wanders into a grocery store having a breakdown about his cat, Mayonnaise, who recently died. The young but weary grocer attempts to help the man, but the two soon realize that the grocer had a momentary fling with the man's brother. The grocer leaves the encounter more jaded and with an even deeper loathing of customer service.

NO is a digital painting that reflects my personal journey of self-acceptance. I often felt as if outside forces were taking away from my identity in hope of shaping me into what made them more comfortable, which I represented with draining gray streaks. Conversely, I used vibrant colors to represent the beauty and bravery in loving yourself, especially when people tell you otherwise.

Although the ribbons are being pulled in chaotic directions, representing the oftentimes scary and isolating process, their vibrant colors are a reminder of the bravery and beauty that self-discovery creates.
